Wellness Coaching FAQ

What is wellness coaching?

Wellness coaching is the process that helps you get from where you are today to where you want to be in terms of your overall well-being. Coaches empower you to prioritize your needs and design an action plan to reach your personal goals.

Wellness coaches are credentialed health and fitness professionals (e.g., personal trainers, nutritionists) who are also trained as professional life coaches. Coaching is defined by the International Coach Federation "as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."

Wellness coaches do a lot of listening, and make sure you have been heard. They also ask powerful questions that help clear away clutter and make your priorities and needs clear. When was the last time you felt heard and validated?

Coaches foster a supportive environment through deep conversation empowering clients to recognize their own strengths in making desired changes. It is through the relationship that develops between coach and client that facilitates change towards optimal wellness.

How does it work?

A coaching program generally lasts a minimum of 12 weeks. The reason for this time frame is to both allow enough time to experience goal achievement, yet have a short enough time to feel the urgency to act. Wellness coaching sessions are generally conducted over the telephone, so it makes it very convenient and schedule-friendly. Before the first session, the client will be asked to complete a wellness assessment online to gather information on overall well-being. The first coaching session between client and coach is an extended session (generally 60 minutes) to allow for the review of the wellness assessment, the designing of a wellness vision, the setting of 3 month goals, and the setting of the first week’s goals. All subsequent sessions generally last 30 minutes and occur once per week or twice per month.
